Why is Medicare a program that matters to everyone?
As Baby Boomers move into retirement, substance abuse and addiction in older adults is increasing at alarming rates. Physical- and mental-health related comorbidities are common in the older adult population, and these conditions contribute to confusion in the clinical presentation.
The National Academy of Social Insurance (NASI) will host its popular Summer Academy series, consisting of two free, day-long sessions on Social Security and Medicare. The sessions feature leading speakers in the field as well as interactive exercises. The Summer Academy may be particularly of interest for interns and professionals who are new to the field.
This is the first of the Summer Academy sessions. Light breakfast and lunch will be provided. The second session, Demystifying Medicare, will be held on July 24, also at the Barbara Jordan Conference Center.
As part of the Consumers for Quality Care, No Matter Where initiative, Consumer Voice is conducting four free advocacy skills training webinars throughout the year. This webinar will be the third advocacy skills training webinar in the series. Long-term care consumers, family members, individual advocates, long-term care ombudsmen, members of consumer advocacy groups, family/caregiving groups, consumer alliances, and community and senior organizations are all invited to participate.
This webinar is the third in a three-part series on The Next Generation of Freedom and Self-Determination: Moving Support Decision-Making from Theory to Practice. The Achieving Better Life Experience (ABLE) Act allows for opportunities for eligible individuals with significant disabilities to rethink their future goals regarding work, income saving and investment, and community participation. Over 25 states are now considering legislation to set a framework for the establishment and administration of ABLE accounts.
Approximately 1% of all Medicare enrollees qualify for Medicare solely because they have End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD). ESRD Medicare is a separate benefit from age- and disability-related Medicare, and individuals with ESRD Medicare have specific rules about coverage and coordination of benefits.
This webinar will discuss:
Older people and adults with disabilities, particularly those with care needs, can benefit from care coordination, and as such, care coordination has been a focal point of managed long term services and supports (LTSS). Care coordinators are typically nurses or social workers who can help with tasks, such as monitoring chronic health conditions, connecting them to social supports, conducting assessments, and writing plans of care. The field faces rapid changes as many states move to expand Medicaid managed care for their populations needing LTSS.
Research shows that LGBT older adults are less likely to access health and social services, which makes the need to engage them in the community even more important. RThis webinar will instruct best practices for helping LGBT older adults feel more included and some of the interpersonal skills that professionals can apply when reaching out and working with this community.
