The National Council on Aging (NCOA) recently announced a new funding opportunity from NCOA’s Center for Healthy Aging. The Innovations in Falls Prevention Grant opportunity is seeking organizations that have creative solutions to reducing older adult falls. Low-income older adults have various options to access food in their local communities. An older adult may seek assistance with a food pantry, farmer's market, or commodity food box program for household groceries. They may also visit a senior center for a congregate meal. SNAP enrollment may require in-person activity to apply or redeem in grocery stores or restaurants. Regardless of where an older adult chooses to obtain food, fall risk may exist.
This 12-month grant aims to bridge the gap between nutrition services and food access with falls prevention. Interested applicants may also focus on falls prevention innovations in other focus areas (Housing & First Responders/Emergency Medical Services).
The application will close on Tuesday, April 30, 2024.
