The Milken Institute's latest report sheds light on a noteworthy demographic shift taking place in the United States. Projections suggest that by 2034, the population of older adults (aged 65 and above) will surpass that of individuals under 18. This shift is anticipated to lead to a significant rise in the older adult population, reaching 80 million by 2040, up from 55.7 million in 2020. Notably, the segment of the population aged 85 and older, requiring increased assistance, is expected to double by 2040. This new report from ASPE and HUD examines the Support And Services at Home (SASH) program from 2010-2016. The SASH program uses affordable housing properties as a method for delivering services to older adults and individuals with disabilities living in Vermont. The study used a mixed-methods evaluation to examine the effects of the SASH program on health care utilization outcomes, Medicaid expenditures, and Medicare expansion.
