Resource - Medical Alert Systems and Insurance

Summary
Medical alert systems are devices that connect users to emergency services with the push of a button. They can save lives and help those living alone feel secure and independent—but they can also be expensive. Most medical alert devices require users to pay a monthly fee ranging from $20 to $60. They can also charge added equipment, connection, or extra feature fees. Original Medicare does not cover medical alert devices; however, a Medicare Advantage (MA) plan may cover some or all of the costs associated with a medical alert system. Individuals are encouraged to contact their MA plan for information. Individuals with Medicaid should contact their Medicaid insurance provider to learn about Medicaid coverage. Additionally, the article discusses other types of insurance coverage, including VA benefits and long-term care insurance.
