The Center for Medicare Advocacy will hold a webinar on Medicare appeals resulting from the Center’s class action on behalf of beneficiaries harmed by “observation status.” The appeals will allow certain hospital patients who are reclassified from inpatient to observation to appeal their status and potentially gain Medicare coverage of skilled nursing facility services that they otherwise would have to forgo or pay for out of pocket. The webinar will review the basics of both types of new appeals (retrospective and prospective), who can appeal, and steps that people who think they are class members can take. It will also provide any updates or insights we have learned since the “retrospective” appeals became operational on January 1, 2025.
Presenters:
- Ali Bers, Litigation Director, Center for Medicare Advocacy
- Wey-Wey Kwok, Senior Attorney, Center for Medicare Advocacy
- Carol Wong, Associate Litigation Director, Justice in Aging
This webinar will take place on Wednesday, January 22 at 2:00 p.m. ET.
