Changing Interagency Service Delivery Systems to Help Older Public Housing Residents Access Services to Assist Them to Age in Place

The Service Access for Elders in Public Housing project address issues that affect the quality of life of elderly residents of an urban public housing complex. A survey of the elderly residents was conducted under this project, seeking to better coordinate information and services provided by public and private agencies that serve the residents to assist them to better age in place in their apartments. This report outlines those results.

A Survey of Functional Status to Support CommunityChoice Rate Setting and Program Assessments

This report focuses on the development, conduct, and preliminary results of this survey, which was designed to examine the distribution of, and extent to which, Maryland Medicaid recipients who are older adults or adults with disabilities report the need for support for basic activities of daily living (ADL). The survey is intended as the first phase of a broader research agenda.

Real Choice Systems Change Grants for Community Living: A Feasibility Study to Consider Respite Services for Children with Disabilities in Maryland

This feasibility study was undertaken to assess respite services for children with disabilities in Maryland. The study compiled and analyzed an annotated list of the Code of Maryland Regulations pertaining to respite, conducted two surveys of agencies that provide respite services to families of children with disabilities, and of the families themselves, and developed a demonstration model that would provide a respite service operated in the manner of a Medicaid service.

Research Design Report for the Evaluation of the Money Follows the Person (MFP) Grant Program

Methods for evaluating MFP are mapped out in detail. The report explains the design of the analyses of implementation, impact, and outcomes. It also describes research questions to be answered and methods for tracking the 31 programs. Finally, the synthesis of information and format of the presentation of findings is discussed.

The Economic Crisis and Its Impact on State Aging Programs

In FY09, 27 states expect budget shortfalls at the same time that HCBS and other services administered by State Units on Aging nationwide experience increased demand. NASUA surveyed 44 states and the District of Columbia about their strategies for coping with this situation. These include creating or increasing waiting lists, cutting budgets, reduced staffing and travel, and adjusting program elements such as eligibility.

Indiana Medicaid Home and Community-Based Services Waiver Programs: A Guide for Consumers

One way Indiana communicates with HCBS waivers consumers is via this document. Updated periodically, it describes available waivers and what services they cover, eligibility requirements, quality assurance mechanisms and the rights of the consumer. It also provides instructions for applying, contact information for other HCBS resources, and tips on choosing good providers. The guide comes with a feedback and evaluation survey.

Opinions of AARP Nebraska Members on Long-Term Care

Older Americans speak up on the importance of services and policies that enable them to age in place through the use of home and community-based services (HCBS). Results show that respondents are not only concerned with HCBS as they remain in the home, but also as they move to nursing home alternatives such as assisted living facilities. They identify the availability of long-term care options as one that should be a top priority for AARP's advocacy.

Solutions and Tools for Transforming the Long-Term Care Workforce

This resource provides tools, contact information, and lessons learned from eight research projects that focused on providing a more stable and qualified workforce. These projects, including state demonstrations and applied research and evaluation programs, are part of the four-year, $15.5 million Better Jobs Better Care initiative. The report compiles the major findings, and the resource catalog provides surveys, policy analyses, training and assessment materials, and many more practical tools.

Going from Good to Great: Livable Communities Surveys in Ohio

Is your area a livable community? You can use this survey and accompanying reports as a model for finding out. AARP defines a livable community as one that allows people to maintain their independence and quality of life as they age and retire. Aspects that make a community livable include mobility, community supports, and affordable housing. Residents age 45 years and older in two OH counties were surveyed to measure whether these things are truly available in their communities.

Status Report on the Use of Wheelchairs and Other Mobility Devices on Public and Private Transportation

The Easter Seals Project ACTION commissioned this report to make the use of mobility devices in transportation safer and easier. A diverse advisory group used several research methods to create best practices in vehicle and equipment design, wheelchair design and usage, transit operations and training, and policy. The appendices provide links to regulatory sources and sample brochures. Riders, manufacturers, transit operators, researchers, and policymakers may all find this useful.
