Bringing CLASS to Long-Term Care Through the Affordable Care Act - Themed Issue: Public Policy and Aging Report

With funding from The SCAN Foundation, this issue of PPAR features articles that recount the laborious process that led to realization of the long-term care provisions found in ACA, analyze the key provisions of the legislation, and explore hurdles that are certain to be encountered during program implementation. Authors include national experts from The SCAN Foundation, RTI International, Oxford University, AAHSA, Avalere Health, AARP and Ecumen.

Center on Aging and Community–Indiana University

As one of seven centers at the University's Institute on Disability and Community, it conducts research and provides training, assistance and information to individuals, families, professionals and communities.

ePolicyWorks Website

Check out ePolicyWorks, a collaborative, information-sharing initiative between national policy-makers and stakeholders, managed by the Office of Disability Employment Policy. It addresses barriers to employment for individuals with disabilities, using web-based technology to enable communication between departments on key policy areas. The workspace contains news, a bulletin board to post info, social networking and eWorkgroup capacities. The initiative is currently focusing on health care.

Technical Assistance Collaborative, Inc. (TAC) - Website

Employ-ABLE! – Maryland

How are states incorporating the needs of people with disabilities into career and job fairs? The State of Maryland created the Employ-Able Disability Career Fair, which was incorporated into the state’s annual World of Possibilities Expo, with the goal of helping to bring more employment opportunities to the disabilities community and returning disabled veterans by linking employers with job seekers. A sample flyer for this fair is attached, as well as a link to the website.

Innovations Clearinghouse on Family Caregiving

FCA launched this online community promoting professional knowledge around families in their caregiving role. The site offers resources to help policymakers, professionals and family caregivers develop caregiver-friendly legislation or initiatives, implement caregiver support programs or services, and access information to enhance the delivery of quality care. Interactive site features include an online forum and user submissions.

Workforce3 Website - New Disability And Employment Resource

Workforce3 One, an online resource sponsored by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration, has a new Disability and Employment Resource Page to provide employment-related resources for the workforce system. This page outlines promising practices and expands the capacity of the One-Stop Career Center system to serve customers disabilities. The resource page includes videos and podcasts, toolkits and training materials, promising practices, and other materials.

Unsure about how to best design and implement HCBS programs? This site provides technical assistance to states that may need assistance in determining which Home & Community Service authority best meet their needs, as well as assisting them in developing, evaluating and maintaing HCBS waiver programs. HCBSselfdirection.org is intended to assist state HCBS program administrators, their staff and contractors, and other state agencies involved with developing HCBS programs.

The Real People, Real Jobs Website

This site highlights the employment successes of people with Intellectual Disabilities/Developmental Disabilities (ID/DD) who are working in paid jobs in their communities. The purpose of these stories is to share where people work and how they got there. They are meant to be read by individuals with ID/DD, their families, and employment support professionals. The goal is to increase awareness of the full range of employment opportunities and support options available.
