Housing in America – The Baby Boomers Turn 65

The ULI published an article on the opportunities and challenges that the baby boomers has created for the U.S. housing industry. The challenge is to meet the diverse lifestyle needs of people in their senior years. Those who are moving desire urban locations where they can be close to many services such as restaurants, health care, and public transportation. The commonality across all aging baby boomers, however, is that they have an aversion to current and future institutional living.

Medicaid Financing for Services in Supportive Housing for Chronically Homeless People: Current Practices and Opportunities

In 2014, most homeless people will become Medicaid-eligible under the Affordable Care Act. Many homeless people have physical and behavioral health conditions for which they seek care through frequent use of emergency rooms and inpatient hospitalization, at considerable cost in public resources. Medicaid reimbursement is an important source of funding for services that help homeless people succeed in housing and stop such inappropriate use of crisis health services.

The Economic Security Database

Wider Opportunities for Women’s (WOW) database provides information on how much it costs for families & older adults to cover their most basic expenses: housing, food, and transportation. The Basic Economic Security Tables (BEST) Index and the Elder Economic Security Standard Index (Elder Index) measure the incomes workers & retired adults need to achieve economic security. Both measures use comprehensive definitions of economic security, presented at the state, county & city levels.

Federal Funding and Support for Respite: Building Blocks for Lifespan Respite Systems

Money Follows the Person Demonstration: Overview of State Grantee Progress, January to June 2011

Enrollment in MFP continued to grow steadily with 15,818 cumulative transitions to the community as of June 30, 2011, a 33 percent increase from the end of 2010. The states reported 3,722 new transitions during the six-month period from January to June 2011, 9 percent more than in the previous six-month period. The report provides an overview of state MFP grantee progress on key performance indicators and challenges states reported when implementing their transition programs.

Aging in Place: A State Survey of Livability Policies and Practices

This report examines state policies that are needed to help older adults age in place. These policies include integrating land use, housing and transportation; efficiently delivering services in the home; providing more transportation choices, particularly for older adults who no longer drive; and improving affordable, accessible housing to prevent social isolation.
