On October 3rd, UnitedHealthcare announced a $335,000 commitment in funding to Idaho organizations to support care among underserved communities, including people in rural areas, individuals with chronic conditions, and older adults. This support will enhance efforts to provide equitable care for older adults and underserved communities. The programs receiving this funding will use it for training, expanding transportation options, accessing assistive technologies, respite care, and diabetes prevention programs. Gary Sullivan, a member of UnitedHealthcare in Tennessee, shares his perspective on the benefits he’s received from being a UnitedHealthcare member. Gary, who was a practicing attorney until his retirement, has been wheelchair-bound due to his muscular dystrophy for many years, and has significant need for help with activities of daily living.

The National Area Agencies on Aging (n4a), the National Council on Aging (NCOA), and UnitedHealthcare released a survey that collected data through telephone interviews from 1,650 older adults and influencers on aging.The survey posed opinion based questions about the process of aging. The results reflect that 86 percent of respondents felt prepared for aging; however, 40 percent were most concerned about maintaining physical health and over 30 percent worried about mental health and memory.
