New Brief: Person-Centered Principles in Adult Protective Services

The Adult Protective Services Technical Assistance Resource Center (APS TARC) has released a brief to explain person-centered principles in theory, in the ACL Final Rule, and in current application in APS programs. The brief includes definitions of person-centered principles as established in federal law, an overview of the application of the person-centered principles in the Final Rule requirements, and policy and practice related to person-centered principles based on data from the National APS Process Evaluation. New Report: Adult Maltreatment

The Adult Protective Services Technical Assistance Resource Center (APS TARC) has released the seventh adult maltreatment data from the National Adult Maltreatment Reporting System (NAMRS). This system is voluntary reporting of data from state adult protective services programs. The data in this report was submitted for federal fiscal year 2022 by all states, territories, and DC. The report includes efforts to improve NAMRS data collection and how the data has been used to increase understanding of adult maltreatment and APS programs. APS Administrators Toolkit

The APS TARC has released a new toolkit for APS administrators managing a state of local APS program. The toolkit is intended to help orient new administrators with a brief which contains information and resources on topics ranging from the history of APS to federal resources that can support APS programs. The toolkit also includes an frequently used acronym guiode and the Updated National Voluntary Consensus Guidelines for State APS Systems from the Administration for Community Living.

Substance Abuse Educational Toolkit

This toolkit provides resources and guidance for front-line staff and administrators in APS working with clients with substance abuse concerns. This toolkit provides a variety of resources including but not limited to: Training for front-line staff on working with substance abuse disorders and possible co-occurring mental health challenges, Lived experience stories from people recovering from substance abuse, and Policies and procedures template for APS administrators.

Quality Assurance in Adult Protective Services

APS TARC recently released an issue brief to address approaches and benefits to quality assurance (QA) as well as considerations in developing a QA program. The brief describes the QA process for documentation, supervisor review and approval, case reading, performance management, and program evaluation. Additionally, the brief provides explanations in who to include in establishing a QA process, why it is important to conduct a QA process, what should be reviewed, and other questions.
