A presentation for the 2003 Gerontological Society of America Annual Scientific Meeting. Presented are findings on the purchase of goods and services under Cash & Counseling in Arkansas and New Jersey. A topic report on the presentation is also available here.

Focus groups in Arkansas were created to learn more about home health agency workers and paid workers of clients enrolled in IndependentChoices. This report provides information on workers' views about issues, as well as the similarities and differences between IndependentChoices and agency workers.

This toolkit was developed to help Cash & Counseling grantees develop their communications materials. The toolkit includes templates for a press release, a FAQ sheet, an Op-Ed letter, and a letter to eligible consumers.

One of the greatest challenges, and greatest hopes, for consumer direction as a service option is to integrate this approach into existing case-managed programs. This chapter was part of Consumer Voice and Choice in Long-Term Care and it explores the issues faced when consumer direction and case management are integrated.

This brief describes the evolution of beneficiary-managed home and community-based services since the original demonstration and provides an overview of state activity as of January 2006. The Deficit Reduction Act of 2005 gives states the option to use this model for an expanded range of home and community based services in their state Medicaid plans without having to obtain a waiver.
