Freedom to Work Information and Marketing Materials – South Dakota

South Dakota’s Freedom to Work (FTW) project provides supports to job seekers with disabilities. Here are examples of tools used to publicize the project. The FTW brochure summarizes all associated services, while the Personal Assistance Services brochure and poster and the Work Incentives Planning and Assistance brochure provide more detailed information for those particular services. The website has relevant links and quarterly newsletters about FTW.

SCAccess Website – South Carolina

SCAccess provides this one-stop website for finding aging and disability resources, applying for benefits, and learning about rights. One section contains a directory for finding and tips for hiring the right personal care worker. Another helps individuals connect with information specialists at each Area Agency on Aging. Consumers can also download commonly used documents and applications. Finally, the site is integrated with agency case management tools.

South Carolina Working Disabled - Brochures

Medicaid for the Working Disabled, South Carolina’s Buy-In program, helps people with disabilities retain healthcare benefits when they get a job or earn more money. The attached brochure highlights program details, eligibility requirements, and application information. It also lists the phone numbers of county DHHS offices. Also included is a handout for Self-Advocates that lists resources on Self-Determination.

Customized Employment Employers and Workers: Creating a Competitive Edge

Since 2001, the U.S. Department of Labor has funded 20 Customized Employment and 6 Workforce Action demonstration projects to identify policy mechanisms that effectively support customized employment. This report gives the background, key findings, successful strategies, obstacles, and analysis of the different projects. The main work product is a set of local, state, and federal policy recommendations generated by the initiative.

New Opportunities and Continuing Challenges: A Report from the NASHP EPSDT Forum

In January 2008, a small group of experts met to discuss challenges and recent changes to the early and periodic screening, diagnosis, and treatment (EPSDT) Medicaid benefit. Their discussion focused on helping states maximize children’s access to EPSDT care. They also covered ways to engage with primary care providers and to improve care coordination and quality measurement.

This booklet, through Arkansas’ “Choices in Living” aging and disabilities resource center, profiles the home and community-based long-term care (LTC) options available in the state. Older adults, people with disabilities, families and support workers can determine which of the five profiled programs are best for them based on eligibility criteria and scope of coverage.

Workforce Recruitment Program for College Students with Disabilities – Websites

These free websites connect employers and college students with disabilities. The first site features only federal sector employers, while the EARN site includes non-profit and other private sector employers. Students and recent graduates can participate by interviewing with accredited recruiters on campus in January or February. Visit the website for more information on how a school can participate.

AccessibleEmployment.org – website

People with disabilities searching for jobs and employers looking for qualified workers can connect here for free. As with other employment sites, candidates can browse job listings and post their resumes. Likewise, employers can create recruitment profiles and post open positions. The site is national in scope but currently primarily shows listings in New Jersey.

Family Care Navigator: State-by-State Help for Family Caregivers

This section of the Family Caregiver Alliance website assists people in locating government, nonprofit, and private long-term care support programs in their respective areas. It includes services for family caregivers, as well as resources for older or disabled adults living at home or in a residential facility. It also includes information on government health and disability programs, legal resources, disease-specific organizations and much more.
