HCBS Conference 2017- Presentations

National Survey of Area Agencies on Aging 2017

A national survey of Area Agencies on Aging is conducted every two to three years. The National Association of Area Agencies on Aging (n4a) has released their 2017 survey report. They surveyed 622 Area Agencies on Aging (AAAs), with 412 completing the survey, to discover what services they commonly offer, how AAAs address funding, and what their policy priorities are.

Recruiting, Hiring, Retaining, and Promoting People with Disabilities: A Resource Guide for Employers

This guide for employers compiles key federal and federally-funded resources related to the employment of people with disabilities. The guide outlines best practices for recruitment, retention, promotion, and provision of accommodations for employees with disabilities. The guide also includes an explanation of the legal framework of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and Section 503 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.

Improving Access to Benefits for Persons with Disabilities Who Were Experiencing Homelessness: An Evaluation of the Benefits Entitlement Services Team Demonstration Project

This study evaluates the outcomes of the disability applications submitted to the Social Security Administration (SSA) through the Benefits Entitlement Services Team (B.E.S.T) Demonstration Project. B.E.S.T was a collaborative effort to locate homeless adults and assist them in applying for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments and/or Disability Insurance (DI). The findings show that B.E.S.T contributed to increased access to disability benefits for applicants.

National Disability Policy: A Progress Report - October 2014

This report fulfills NCD’s statutory mandate to annually report and make recommendations concerning the state of disability policy in the United States. Specifically, the 2014 Progress Report focuses on seven key areas: the Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities (CRPD), employment access and inclusion, subminimum wage, education outcomes, Medicaid managed care, mental health care, and data trends in disability policy.
