Highlighted in the report are important developments & directions in NIH-funded research, including: risk for developing Alzheimer’s; genes that play a role in the disease; neuroimaging & biomarkers that detect & track the disease; research into new treatments; lifestyle factors that may worsen or protect against the disease; & help for caregivers. Special features include animation showing the progression of Alzheimer’s in the brain & video interviews highlighting new insights into the disease.

This guide lays out information about each federal program that provides or could provide respite funding or support. It is meant to be used by state Lifespan Respite Care Programs & their partners to help identify the funding sources that could be the building blocks for the state’s Lifespan Respite systems, help serve the underserved, build respite capacity & quality and help recruit & retain respite workers, and identify individuals who administer funds for future partnerships.

The focus of this issue brief is on issues of suicide, anxiety and depression, prescription drug misuse and abuse, and alcohol abuse. The target audiences are the local and State Aging Services Network, behavioral health community, and substance abuse providers. The Issue Brief series will identify key information and opportunities for action that can improve the lives of older Americans. It emphasizes the importance of using partnerships to implement and sustain effective services.

Existing national disability-related survey & administrative data are limited in their ability to meet needs of federal programs & policy makers. One potential response to these shortcomings is the fielding of a national disability survey. This report was prepared to assess the need for developing & fielding another national disability survey data collection effort. It presents findings from one of the project’s major activities designed to review the disability-related information.

As state and federal agencies strive to meet the growing needs of people with disabilities while using fewer resources, better disability data are needed for monitoring and improving the health, economic status, and overall well-being of this population. The report identifies limitations in national survey data on disability and outlines a wide range of potential short- and long-term options for addressing them, including developing and fielding a national disability survey.

This policy brief provides information on Washington, DC and the 37 states that are planning to better integrate care for participants who are dually eligible for Medicare and Medicaid. The Center for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS) will allow states to select a capitated model, or a managed fee-for-service model, or they can use both models. Included is a chart explaining the main differences between the two models.

In an effort to improve care & reduce costs, states & the federal government are seeking new ways to provide services to people eligible for both Medicare & Medicaid. Missing from the discourse are the voices of these dual eligibles. Changes to the way their care is organized & delivered could have profound effects on their health, quality of life, & satisfaction. This project aims to complement state & federal efforts by offering perspectives on what duals want from their models of care.

This site is a one stop resource to help expand integrated supportive housing approaches for people with disabilities. It highlights innovative new options within the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) Section 811 Supportive Housing for Persons with Disabilities program, & provides information & resources targeted to states & other supportive housing stakeholders as they face new challenges & opportunities for ensuring community living for non elderly people with disabilities.

These Guiding Principles were developed to help to preserve the rights of individuals under participant direction, no matter what form or model, if and when workers choose to form a union. This report is the latest in a series on expenditures for Medicaid waivers authorized under Section 1915(c) of the Social Security Act, also known as home and community-based services waivers. For the first time, the tables include state-reported data for 1915(c) waiver services provided through managed care programs that are not identifiable in the state CMS 64 reports. Thomson Reuters collected these data for FY 2008 and FY 2009.
