Senators Gillibrand and Casey Introduce Strategic Plan for Aging Act

On February 28, Senators Gillibrand and Casey introduced the Strategic Plan for Aging Act, which would create a new, nationwide grant program to support states in the development and implementation of multisector plans on aging. The act would award grants to states, territories, and tribes to create or continue development of their multisector plans. Awardees would be provided with resources to coordinate, implement, and evaluate cross-agency and private sector plans to improve the lives of older adults. ADvancing States and several other organizations have endorsed the Strategic Plan for Aging Act.

Final Week to Apply: Making Care Primary (MCP) Model

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) have issued a notice that the deadline for applying to participate in the Making Care Primary (MCP) Model is next week. The MCP application is non-binding and should take no more than 15 minutes to complete. Eligibility requirements and additional model details can be found in the Request for Applications (RFA). To support interested applicants in their decision-making, CMS has published an Example Revenue Factsheet which compares potential revenue under Medicare fee-for-service to potential revenue under MCP. Medicare and Medicaid: Additional Oversight Needed of CMS's Demonstration to Coordinate the Care of Dual-Eligible Beneficiaries

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) began the Financial Alignment Demonstration in 2013 to improve care coordination. GAO was asked to examine care coordination under this demonstration. On January 19, The Government Accountability Office publicly released a report with their recommendations for CMS. GAO recommends that CMS develop new measures and align the current measures to improve oversight of care coordination.

The Integrated Care Resource Center released a brief that offers tips for engaging providers in integrated care programs for Medicare-Medicaid enrollees. Integrated care programs are successful when a broad spectrum of providers are engaged in the process. This brief provides states with tips on how to engage physicians, hospitals, nursing facilities, and community-based service providers that serve Medicare and Medicaid enrollees.
