On the 60th anniversary of Older Americans Month, the White House has issued a proclamation recognizing the invaluable contributions of our Nation's seniors. The proclamation celebrates the progress made through programs such as Medicare and Social Security in raising many seniors out of poverty and providing affordable healthcare. However, it also acknowledges the need for continued efforts to ensure seniors can age with dignity and financial security. Specifically, President Biden calls on Congress to improve accessibility to high-quality care and support for caregivers, increase funding for nutrition services, and improve the quality and safety of nursing homes to help ensure that all older adults are supported.

This report is the most comprehensive and representative assessment of self-reported outcomes among older adults and people with physical disabilities receiving publicly funded LTSS since 2018. These data were collected from 13,663 people between June 2021 and July 2022. National staff shortage trend data spans from May 2020, the first month when nursing facilities were required to report COVID-19 facility data to the CDC, through March 20, 2022, the most recent week of data available.

On Thursday, October 21, 2021 CMS launched a new “one-stop shop” for state Medicaid agencies and stakeholders on Medicaid.gov to advance transparency and innovation for home and community-based services. Through this new webpage, state Medicaid agencies and stakeholders can access information about states’ plans to enhance, expand, and strengthen home and community-based services across the country using new Medicaid funding made available by the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARP).
