A Resource Guide to State Medicaid Infrastructure Grant (MIG) Initiatives

Developed as a means to provide a framework for state-to-state communication, technical assistance, and for multi-state analysis of policy and program development activities this site is also intended as a resource to other public officials, analysts and advocates. The Guide has 6 sections which include 65 categories of states’ MIG comprehensive employment project activities. Within the 6 sections are subsections of summaries, recent activities and details and background information.

Looking for current and accurate information regarding CMS policy on HCBS waiver quality oversight? Need technical assistance in developing a quality improvement strategy or evidence package? The new NQC website is the CMS-sponsored location for policy, statutory and technical assistance materials and contacts to guide states’ in their ongoing quality improvement efforts. Will Medicaid Buy-In Participants Work and Earn More if Social Security Rules Change?

The brief reports findings of a survey to assess how many Kansas Working Healthy Medicaid Buy-In participants would likely increase their employment and earnings under a gradual Social Security Disability Insurance offset program. 25% of the respondents would try to work and earn more if this program was available and 25% maybe would do so. Researchers suggest benefit offset programs coupled with existing Medicaid Buy-In programs have potential to increase employment and earnings for people.

MIG-RATS Website

The Medicaid Infrastructure Grant Research Assistance to States (MIG-RATS) Center launched a website to provide resources and support to states implementing MIGs. The website is designed to help staff find research reports and resources, learn about MIG-RATS activities and initiatives, and connect with MIG researchers. The website includes info on topics such as Medicaid Buy-In programs, outreach and marketing, and youth in transition and also provides links to tools and a calendar of events.

National Institute on Aging Website

Part of the National Institutes of Health, the NIA website offers up-to-date information on aging research. Visit the site to find out the latest research and which clinical trials are recruiting as well as funding opportunities. Studies are related to aging issues such as Alzheimer’s, muscular diseases, Osteoarthritis, Insulin Resistance, High Blood Pressure, Caregiver Stress, Mobility Limitation, Sleep Disorders and more. The site is also now available in Spanish.

National Registry of Evidence-Based Programs and Practices Website

NREPP (www.nrepp.samhsa.gov) is a searchable online registry of mental health and substance abuse interventions that have been reviewed and rated by independent experts. The registry assists local organizations in identifying interventions that have been scientifically tested and can be readily disseminated to the field. Organizations can search for interventions that fit the needs of their communities.

Working Healthy: Making Health Care Work Website and Marketing Material

Working Healthy, the Kansas MIG program, offers people with disabilities who are working or interested in working the opportunity to get or keep Medicaid coverage while on the job. The website offers an interactive map of benefit specialist, a chart on premiums (SRS Form ES-3165) , information on Work Opportunities Reward Kansans (WORK), publications, and FAQs. Also review their brochure in English and Spanish and their one page fact sheet used for outreach.

Hoosiers Ready to Work Website and Resources

Indiana Works (Indiana’s Benefits Planning Assistance and Outreach Programs) received a MIG grant to conduct a statewide needs assessment in the disability community of the informational needs regarding state and federal programs and resources that support employment. The website contains general information about subjects and does not replace the expertise and assistance from trained benefits counselors. Also included for review are project overview and updates, fact sheets, and final reports.

Health Benefits for Workers with Disabilities (HBWD) Website: Illinois

Illinois has joined the national movement to help people with disabilities return to work. The new program called Health Benefits for Workers with Disabilities (HBWD) started providing medical benefits in January 2002. Visit their site which provides program information and statistics, application and instructions, brochure and radio ads, FAQs, presentation requests and links, E-Pay, eligibility requirements, premium cost & co-pays, Rx Buying Club, plus information in Español.
