Rhodes to Independence – Rhode Island MIG Resources

In 2000, Rhode Island launched an initiative called “Rhodes to Independence” (RTI) to promote systems changes that reduce barriers to employment. RTI focuses on health care, transportation, housing, youth transitions, and diversity. Below, find RTI’s 2005 annual report, a recruitment brochure for the RI Business Leadership Network, and brochures in English and Spanish advertising Sherlock, a health insurance program for employed people with disabilities.

EPA Aging Initiative Environmental Health Fact Sheets

These short documents provide information on common health concerns for elderly people that can be caused or exacerbated by environmental factors. Elderly people, caretakers, and educators can use these resources to identify and prevent potential health threats. The fact sheets are available here in English and Spanish. In the Driver’s Seat: A Guide to Self-directed Mental Health Care

The guide summarizes the goals of self-directed planning and the rights of the consumers. It also lists strategies by states to support these services. Occupational Projections for Direct-Care Workers 2006–2016

This fact sheet summarizes and analyzes direct-care workforce statistics from the U.S. Dept. of Labor’s national occupational projections for 2006-16. The analysis shows that demand for workers will sharply exceed supply. Demand will especially surpass the number of women aged 25-54 entering the workforce, which is the primary demographic group from which direct-care workers are drawn. The analysis also shows that twice as many people will be working in HCBS settings than in facilities.

Return on Investment Calculator for Medicaid Quality Initiatives

This web-based resource helps Medicaid stakeholders allocate resources and demonstrate the business case for improving quality in health care. It is designed for programs that aim to more effectively manage the care of adults with disabilities and chronic conditions. Because the care of this population consumes nearly 70% of Medicaid expenditures, it represents a good opportunity to improve health outcomes, reduce unnecessary utilization, and control costs. CMS Case Management Regulation Rule Guidance

The Deficit Reduction Act (DRA) of 2005 clarified which case management and targeted case management services are covered by Medicaid. The rule addresses concerns about improper billing of non-Medicaid services to the program by some states, while aiming to ensure comprehensive services that meet the needs of beneficiaries. Health Coverage for People with Disabilities - North Carolina
