Legislative Study of the Direct Care Workforce in Vermont

This study examines dynamics affecting the direct-care workforce in Vermont. It found that only one third of those workers have employer-sponsored health insurance, one half of those surveyed expected to receive a raise, and 42% received formal job training. The report includes nine recommendations to strengthen the state’s direct-care workforce. In addition, the appendices include original surveys given to employers and direct-care workers.

The Administration’s Medicaid Regulations: State-By-State Impacts

The National Center for Health Statistics has announced a new release of updated statistical tests the health of older Americans showing data by age, sex, race and Hispanic origin. The tables are easy to customize. NACDA’s mission is to advance research on aging by helping researchers to profit from the under-exploited potential of a broad range of datasets. Report of the Taskforce on the Aging of the American Workforce

Created in 2006 and comprised of representatives from nine federal agencies, the taskforce was charged with developing multi-agency strategies to address the aging of the workforce. This report summarizes the Taskforce’s findings and recommendations including self-employment, flexible work arrangements and customized employment. Notably they suggest exploring the increasing the employment focus of Aging and Disability Resource Centers and enhancing collaboration with One-Stop Career Centers.

ACT Peer Support Evaluation Findings

Fifty-nine participants in three cohorts of training for ACT Peer Support Specialist (PSS) were surveyed on the last day of their training on a number of outcome variables, including current employment status. Since Medicaid is funded by states as well as the federal government, it has a considerable impact on state budgets. When considering Medicaid’s impact on state budgets and other state spending priorities, it is important to distinguish between total spending on Medicaid and spending with state funds. Often this distinction is not made. This brief examines the different measures and provides data on how much each state spends on Medicaid.

The national percentage of Medicaid spending on home and community-based services (HCBS) has more than doubled from 1992 to 2004. This report presents a summary of the main trends to emerge for the three Medicaid HCBS programs and the results of a survey of policies such as eligibility criteria and waiting lists.
