The Nevada Children with Special Health Care Needs conducted a 5 month multi-method needs assessment that describes demographics, universal needs and barriers families with children with special health care needs face. Completion of this needs assessment represents an opportunity for community input into the prioritization of needs design & implementation of positive changes to the system of care. The report also includes a summary of Selected States’ Service Delivery Models, tables & figures.

The New England ADA & Accessible IT Center is one of ten regional disability and business technical assistance centers funded by the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR). The Center is a project of Adaptive Environments, Inc., a nonprofit organization. The Minnesota Finance Authority has made available guides on their website to assist consumers on how to design accessible home modifications and provide details on what funding programs are available from federal, state and local levels. The New Freedom Initiative, announced in February 2001, called for a comprehensive assessment of federal policies, programs, statutes, and regulations to identify barriers that impede community living for disabled individuals—and for recommended solutions. In October 2004 CMS awarded an additional $30 million in Real Choice Systems Change Grants—this money in addition to the 188 grants for over $158 million between fiscal years 2001-03. This report highlights accomplishments of those programs.

This brief information update highlights the United States Department of Justice settlement of a housing discrimination suit that alleged disability discrimination by the Triumvera Tower Condominium Association in Glenview, IL. The complaint alleged the condominium association discriminated on the basis of disability by establishing a written policy prohibiting persons in wheelchairs from using the front door.

Expanding upon the \"lessons learned\" from the first Model Communities forum held in Connecticut in May 2004, this Community Inclusion forum held in Ridgefield CT brought together a variety of communities interested in \"enhancing awareness among community members of the barriers faced by people with disabilities in becoming fully included & integrated into communities.\" Participants identified barriers to inclusion and suggested numerous strategies communities can use to address these issues.

ArcLink has created a cognitively accessible website offering information on Medicare Prescription Drug Coverage and the Discount card. The site gives answers to frequently asked questions, offers definitions of commonly used terms in Medicare and explains how to get help and how to get a card.

This site offers downloadable training materials and information for those providing care to older adults from specific ethnic groups. The materials include information about diseases prevalent in particular groups, cultural beliefs & practices, historical events that influenced particular groups. While the focus is on providing culturally appropriate health care services, much of the information offered is applicable to people providing a broad range of long term care & supportive services.
