This issue brief from Justice in Aging discusses the deficit in data regarding guardianship in the United States and the problems that has created for reform efforts in the guardianship system. The brief addresses the need for data to understand who is under guardianship, why they are under guardianship, and the risks marginalized older adults face but are not reported. Justice in Aging has launched the first of a four-part series of issue briefs as part of their Equitable Guardianship Reform Series. During Guardianship Awareness Month in October, the National Center on Law and Elder Rights (NCLER) is offering a range of resources for advocates. These resources include recordings of NCLER's ACL-LSC training series, which cover topics like representing clients with differing decisional capabilities and defending against or terminating guardianship. Additionally, advocates can access a Guardianship Awareness Resource Guide, developed in partnership with the National Center on Elder Abuse, featuring trainings, podcasts, and publications related to guardianship and its alternatives. These resources aim to empower advocates in their efforts to reduce barriers, promote autonomy, and protect the civil rights of older adults.

The Center on Youth Voice, Youth Choice is a national youth resource center that supports alternatives to guardianship through research, self-advocacy, outreach, coalition building and education. The Community of Practice will discuss best practices, support long-term change, and help elevate the voices of youth leaders in this work. Applications to join this network are now being accepted.
