Financing long-term care (LTC) is a key policy and budget issue both in New Hampshire and nationally. Debates focus on who should bear the financial burden of LTC or how the burden should be distributed. This brief looks at what LTC is, its importance to people with disabilities, LTC financing mechanisms, the economy and LTC, and recommendations for change.

The Nursing Home Transition Process: Options, Analyses and Recommendations

In this report to the Georgia Department of Community Health, Geogia reports on their nursing home transition process. The report provides an overview of the Olmstead decision, and a description of the survey used determine which individuals might be interested in transitioning from institutions. The report discusses the two grants currently underway in the state and provides recommendations for future directions.

The Texas Promoting Independence Plan

The Texas Promoting Independence Plan is the comprehensive, effectively working plan called for as a response to the U.S. Supreme Court Olmstead decision. The Plan includes all long-term care services and supports and the state’s efforts to improve the provision of community-based alternatives. The goal is to ensure that these programs effectively foster independence and acceptance of people with disabilities and provide opportunities for people to live productive lives in their communities.

Exisiting Policy Barriers to Full Inclusion in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands

Results of an Opinion Research Questionnaire in the Norther Mariana Islands. One hundred eighteen government and community organizations in Saipan, Tinian and Rota were surveyed to identify issues and solicit recommendations to remove policy barriers identified by the respondents.
