The annual summary of the latest statistics on the older population, A Profile of Older Americans:2016 covers 15 topical areas including population, income and poverty, living arrangements, education, health, and caregiving. Principal sources of data for the Profile are the U.S. Census Bureau, the National Center for Health Statistics, and the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The Profile incorporates the latest data available.

The Aging Network and Care Transitions: Preparing your Organization Toolkit

A new resource for organizations within the Aging Network that are interested in developing a care transitions program, providing information, tools and case studies. Chapters for the toolkit include: Getting Started, Taking Time to Plan, Developing Effective Partnerships with Health Care Providers, Measuring for Success, Building Organizational Capacity, Implementation and Day-to-Day Operations. The toolkit can be downloaded by sections or in its entirety.

A Profile of Older Americans: 2012

This annual summary uses information from the US Census Bureau, the National Center for Health Care Statistics, and the Bureau of Labor Statistics to display the demographic shift, as well as the health, geographic distribution and economic changes of those over 65 in the United States. This report found that 13.3 percent of the population is 65 and older, but this demographic is expected to grow to 21 percent by 2040. Changes from previous summaries are analyzed and projections are made.

Use of Transportation Services among OAA Title III Program Participants

Through the Aging Services Networks, including State Units on Aging, Area Agencies on Aging, local service providers, the Administration on Aging (AoA) works to provide services designed to mitigate the effects of declining physical health and functioning experienced by frail older adults. This brief, the sixth in a series that presents findings from AoA’s National Survey of OAA Program Participants, explores the use of transportation services among OAA Title III program participants.

Title IIID Highest-Level Criteria EB DPHP Programs Cost Chart

The Administration for Community Living AoA’s OAA Title IIID webpage now includes a chart searchable by keywords of all the highest-level criteria evidence-based (EB) disease prevention and health promotion (DPHP) programs that have undergone the AoA program submission process to become listed on the webpage. The Chart outlines thirty EB programs, including a brief description, costs, website and contact information, program goals, target audience, and training requirements.

Elder Rights: Safeguards for the Most Vulnerable Among Us

The Older Americans Act provides funding for an extensive network of State and Area Agencies on Aging and local providers that coordinates and delivers services, and protects the rights of older persons.This document reviews three programs that AoA supports to promote the rights of seniors and protect them from abuse, neglect, and exploitation: the Elder Abuse, Neglect, and Exploitation Prevention Program, Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program, and State Legal Assistance Development Program.

PERFORMANCE OUTCOMES MEASURES PROJECT

Congress passed the Older Americans Act (OAA) in 1965 in response to concern by policymakers about a lack of community social services for older persons. This website provides a list of web links that offer an unofficial compilation of the OAA, an outline of changes made to the OAA at the most recent reauthorization in 2006, a set of frequently asked questions and other related sources of information and data.
