National Disability Institute (NDI)

This report from the National Disability Institute (NDI) studies the prevalence of disability by race, the changing rate of disability by age and race, and the impact of race and disability on educational attainment, employment, banking status, health insurance, medical debt, and food insecurity.

This FDIC report provides information about the population of households headed by working-age adults with and without disability, including account ownership; use of prepaid debit cards; use of alternative financial services; mobile phone,smartphone, and online access. Participation in mainstream financial services is a critical indicator of the economic inclusion; yet the findings show 46.5% of households headed by working-age adults with disabilities are identified as unbanked or underbanked.

The National Disability Institute released a report on the financial capability of people with disabilities. The report shared insights on various agencies' work to advance financial capability for youth and adults with disabilities. The report found that people with disabilities are less financially stable than people without disabilities in nearly all categories including making ends meet, planning ahead, managing financial products and financial knowledge and decision making.
