New Data on Older Adult Needs

The John A. Hartford Foundation & Age Wave has released new research and resources that demonstrates a disconnect between the care that older adults receive and the care that they want. The report includes some of the following insights: survey results revealing wide-ranging dissatisfaction, challenges faced in underserved communities, and innovative technology solutions. Also included are recommendations to improve health care for older adults, data that illustrates dissatisfaction with health care, and methodology of the research. The JAHF provided several resources for older adults to aid in seeking age-friendly care, and the resources span over varying living conditions and circumstances. Supporting the Critical Role of Family Caregivers: State Opportunities

This fact sheet was developed as part of the Center’s Helping States Support Families Caring for an Aging America initiative. Six states – Alabama, Idaho, Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Virginia- are involved with the initiative. This fact sheet provides an overview of unpaid family caregiving and lists options state leaders can consider implementing in order to support family caregivers in their state.

Creating an Age-Friendly Public Health System: Challenges, Opportunities, and Next Steps

This paper discusses the role of the public health field in promoting the health of older adults. It summarizes a meeting of aging stakeholders in Fall 2017 and analyzes the document developed at the meeting, called the Framework for an Age-Friendly Public Health System. This framework outlines the potential for the further involvement of public health in aging by presenting five major directions the field can take to make a positive impact on the aging process.
