On Monday, February 13, 2023 The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services released a press release on the Biden-Harris administration’s efforts to implement section 6101(a) of the Affordable Care Act. The proposed rule would require additional ownership and management information about nursing homes across the United States be disclosed. The Administrations attempts to implement the rule is part of a continued effort by the administration to improve quality of care at nursing homes.

In our capacity as a sub-grantee to the National Long-Term Care Ombudsman Resource Center (NORC), we were pleased to invite SLTCOs to a webinar on May 13, 2021. Regrettably, the past few years have been scarred by various disasters including wildfires, severe winter storms, and COVID-19 pandemic. This webinar was for SLTCOs, to inform thinking and planning around disaster mitigation and management. Attendees heard from leaders from two states on their recent experiences responding to disasters.

The Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) Conference is hosted annually by ADvancing States (formerly known as NASUAD). This event highlights best practices from across the country in home and community-based services. The conference includes federal, state, and local policymakers as well as those who administer, manage, and deliver waiver and other HCBS programs. This updated primer explains key provisions of the Ombudsman rule. It highlights promising practices for coordination between State Agencies and the State Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program in long-term services and supports. The report was co-authored with the National Consumer Voice for Quality Long-Term Care, who serves as a partner in the Administration for Community Living funded National Long-Term Care Ombudsman Resource Center (NORC).

While faced with new challenges, reduced budgets, and growing populations requiring more services, states are stronger than ever, and the work they do is more effective than ever in reaching individuals and addressing their needs. The National Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) Conference 2018 highlights these achievements, allowing states to share best practices, present unique partnerships, and recognize the work of their peers.

A national survey of Area Agencies on Aging is conducted every two to three years. The National Association of Area Agencies on Aging (n4a) has released their 2017 survey report. They surveyed 622 Area Agencies on Aging (AAAs), with 412 completing the survey, to discover what services they commonly offer, how AAAs address funding, and what their policy priorities are.
