Employing People with Disabilities – Montana

How can employers attract and retain employees with disabilities? This and other issues having to do with disabled workers are addressed in a brochure sent to Montana employers. This tool includes a self assessment questioner about workplace disability practices, a letter from the governor, a myths and facts section, and resources for more information. While this is meant for Montana residents, this could serve as a template for other states interested in employing more people with disabilities.

Telecommuting Assessment and Guide - Vermont

Is telecommuting a viable option for the disabled? The state of Vermont sent its’ Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors a self assessment asking just that, as well as a document outlying the risks of direct selling and multi-level marketing. The information in these documents provide counselors with a tool to help disabled workers find and retain work, and provide a general outline of information, including links to national online resources, which could be useful to any state.

IndependentChoices Procedure Manual - Arkansas

An alternative to the traditional care delivery system, Arkansas’ IndependentChoices was the first program nationally that offered participant directed care as an option to its’ Medicaid population. Alderbrook 2007 - Washington

Washington states' Alderbrook 2007 was a “discussion” among some 150 people, about current attempts to implement The Working Age Adults Employment policy in communities statewide with the goal of learning from each other about how to do it better. This paper explores “what’s working” and how to improve and expand its' implementation. It's a discussion with wide reaching implications for any state interested in improving or implementing similar policies.

Strengthening the Direct Service Workforce in Rural Areas

There are a number of challenges for the direct service workforce in rural areas. Review an issue brief and a recorded webinar presenting strategies that stakeholders can use to provide high-quality long-term care services and supports. States engaged in development of their direct service workforce can use these to gain knowledge of the challenges and learn about some direct service related strategies that other states and rural agencies have implemented.
