A Profile of Older Americans: 2012

This annual summary uses information from the US Census Bureau, the National Center for Health Care Statistics, and the Bureau of Labor Statistics to display the demographic shift, as well as the health, geographic distribution and economic changes of those over 65 in the United States. This report found that 13.3 percent of the population is 65 and older, but this demographic is expected to grow to 21 percent by 2040. Changes from previous summaries are analyzed and projections are made.

Putting your Aging and Disability Partnerships to Work for Your Bottom Line

This webinar examined how you can build on partnerships to take advantage of new funding opportunities, expand funding, and share resources with partners on grant writing and business development. Specifically, participants will be able to 1) understand why and how partnerships are beneficial to a sustainable program, 2) learn how to integrate opportunities for collaboration between disability and aging service systems, and 3) learn the concept of program sustainability and why it is important.

The Importance of Federal Financing to the Nation’s Long-Term Care Safety Net

This policy brief from Georgetown University, produced with support from The SCAN Foundation, reviews Medicaid's importance and current funding limitations for long-term care and makes the case for strengthening Medicaid two possible ways - full federal responsibility for Medicare beneficiaries who also rely on Medicaid or an enhanced federal match for Medicaid long-term care services. Each approach carries with it a federal commitment to bear the brunt of a growing elderly population.

Final Report of System and Impact Research and Technical Assistance for CMS FY2005, FY2006, and FY2007 RCSC Grants

This fourth and final report for the national evaluation of the FY05, 06, and 07 Real Choice Systems Change (RCSC) Grants presents findings for both FY05 and FY06 Systems Transformation (ST) grantees. The findings address how grant efforts progressed between initial and final implementation periods and whether those efforts resulted in the achievement of grant outcomes and ultimately transformation of state systems.

Incentives for "Medicaid Works" Report - Virginia

To learn more, read this report which features a model used to predict behavior of individuals, budget costs, and related savings of the Virginia Medicaid Works program, along with the well-being of affected individuals. Incentives for "Medicaid Works" - Virginia

How is the state of Virginia working to better understand its Medicaid program's efficacy? This report aims to develop a framework to understand the incentive effects of the Virginia Medicaid Works program that provides disabled Medicaid recipients the option to earn higher income while ensuring continued Medicaid coverage. By decoupling labor market decisions from Medicaid receipt, the primary objective of the Works program is to increase the employment and earnings of disabled recipients.

Veteran-Directed Home and Community Based Services Program

The Veterans Directed Home and Community Based Services program, sometimes referred to as Cash and Counseling for Veterans is designed to allow veterans who are potential candidates for nursing home placement to receive that level of care in their homes. Meeting the Needs of Persons with Alzheimer's or Other Dementia When No Informal Support is Available

The Center for Advocacy for the Rights and Interests of the Elderly (CARIE) has many concerns about “unbefriended” elderly, those who do not have any family or friends to help them. CARIE’s Legislative Committee developed a white paper about unbefriended elderly with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementia to help bring attention to this group to begin to address their needs. This paper contains helpful recommendations for policymakers, researchers, and others.
