Hunger and Nutrition in America: What’s at Stake for Children, Families and Older Adults

This report identifies ways to effectively address nutrition problems using innovative intergenerational strategies. It lays out a set of recommendations that invite policymakers, business and community leaders, and advocates to: 1) directly engage older and younger community members in tackling the hunger and nutrition challenges, 2) view people of different generations as problem-solves and sources of supports for each other, 3) cultivate the leadership qualities in people of all ages.

State Policy Toolkit for Advancing Falls Prevention

This Toolkit is designed to give state and local coalitions the strategies, tools, and resources to make a real impact on falls and fall-related injuries and deaths. It offers a rich compendium of suggested policy changes to advance falls prevention, categorized under eight major goals. AoA Evidence-based Disease and Disability Prevention Program

Funding support to states under the EBDDP program has been provided by AoA to empower older adults to take control of their health. In these programs, seniors learn to maintain a healthy lifestyle through increased self-efficacy and self-management behaviors. Classes are provided to older adults: In their own communities; In familiar non-clinical settings, such as community centers; In peer learning groups which provide support, socialization and reinforcement of positive health behavior changes

Disability Data in National Surveys

Existing national disability-related survey & administrative data are limited in their ability to meet needs of federal programs & policy makers. One potential response to these shortcomings is the fielding of a national disability survey. This report was prepared to assess the need for developing & fielding another national disability survey data collection effort. It presents findings from one of the project’s major activities designed to review the disability-related information.

The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation Website

“The Innovation Center” is a new engine for revitalizing and sustaining the Medicare, Medicaid and CHIP programs and ultimately to help to improve the healthcare system for all Americans. The Center, established by the Affordable Care Act, was given the flexibility and resources to rapidly test innovative care and payment models and scale up successful models. Adult Protective Services: Increased Demand and Decreased Funds

New data show that one in ten older adults are victims of mistreatment, with a higher percentage being victims of financial exploitation. Only a small percentage of elder abuse events are ever referred to agencies that can assist victims. Adult Protective Services (APS) offer victims of abuse, neglect, and exploitation a range of services. This report shows how calls to APS have increased since the recession began, but most states have either decreased or maintained their budgets for services.

Family Opportunity Act Letter – Louisiana

How is Louisiana's Family Opportunity Act keeping parents or guardians of children waiting for services informed about new MIG services they could be getting immediately? Attached is a sample of a letter sent out to parents or guardians to inform them of the Family Opportunity Act (FOA). In this program, there are no resource limits, and the family can be covered by other health insurance programs. This approach to marketing new MIG programs could be useful to other states.
